Our official name is Hagerstown Community College International Studies Club.
PHew! What a mouth full right? So, Melinda thought of our nickname and then brought the name to the
club for a vote. As a result of that meeting, as of the 2006 Spring semester, we have shorten our name to simply "I-Club."
As for our website name "Lemonde 5": Le monde means "the world" in French. Our new website was created
by Kristen and one of her friends during the spring semester of 2006;revamped and updated by Melinda throughout the summer
semester of 2006.
Meanwhile, our club is several years old (at least 2 years). However, untill further research, our
exact orgins are unclear. What is clear, is that our club last year in 2005 was doomed to become a "dead" club. So, our beloved
part-time faculty advisor Gretchen Liebl rose up to the challenge by saving our club. Gretchen was told by our full-time faculty
advisor Professor Suzannah B. Moran, that unless someone took over the responsiblity of our club, our club was
going to die. Ouch!
Consequently, Gretchen sought out potential members. Two new members joined: Stephanie and Kristen.
Our club had no club officers, so according to our Vice-President (for 2006) Stephanie, a coin was fliped to see whom would
be club president and who would be vice-president. Stephanie became vice-president and Kristen became president. Melinda
was invited to join as treasurer (Feb 2006), after attending a lecture given by Mr. Bonham - a story she was covering for
HCC's "The Hawk" newspaper.
Soon we began a team effort to meet regularly with Gretchen on Thursdays and find new members
while planning our club's future. Samantha "Sam" joined (shortly after Melinda) and stepped gladly into the role of club secretary.
However, starting the fall semester of 2006, "Sam" will be our new president since Kristen is stepping down in order to pursue
her educational goals in Baltimore, MD.
Thanks to Gretchen, I-Club is revamped, reinvented and saved from oblivion. =)
